QUESTION
Discussion Question
There are many factors that will continue to impact community and population health.
- Consider the past achievements in public health as many have implications around the globe.
- Describe a global health concern that has impacted your community or those you care for.
- Discuss what surveillance data could be pulled from an electronic health record (EHR) you have used or currently use in your nursing practice.
- Take a moment to review the Twitter feed for compelling Tweets that are related to informatics, global health, and population health outcomes.
- Share an overview the Tweet and how it is likely to impact future collaborative trends in community health.
- Compose a 280-character or fewer Tweet that describes what you would like to see as a Tweet in the next decade related to public health achievements. Please try to be realistic, but also be visionary. Remember Twitter only allows 280 characters (this includes spaces, etc.) so you will need to be concise. It should include a hashtag. Include a reference URL if applicable. Share this Tweet in the discussion. (Note: A Twitter account is not required nor share your Tweet on social media).

- Paragraph four: Compose a 280-character Tweet that describes what you would like to see as a Tweet in the next decade related to public health achievements.
- Resources: Where did you find your data?
- Example: New HIV infection rates at all-time low worldwide #primaryprevention #collaborationiskey #WeGotThis #RNsunite www.HIV.gov

Social Media Discussion: Past, Present, and Future
The global public health concern that has impacted my community is COVID-19. The pandemic has burdened the community’s health system and affected our social and economic systems. Social distancing and lockdown measures resulted in income loss, business closures, unemployment, travel restrictions, and reduced activities across all economic sectors. Health reports show Long County recorded 2,892 Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths from the pandemic (CDC, 2020). The CDC (2020) reports that only 21.7% of Long County residents are vaccinated, meaning most community members are unvaccinated. The lack of awareness, denial, hesitancy and misinformation about the disease and vaccines contributed to these low vaccination outcomes.
The surveillance data that could be pulled from electronic health records are COVID-19 incidences, morbidity, and mortality cases across different demographic populations. Binkheder et al. (2021) report that EHRs are a vital data source for understanding the pandemic’s dynamics, treatment efficacy, and new investigations. A high-quality EHR system can use documented information, i.e., information from diagnoses, chest X-rays, laboratory testing, and chest X-rays, to identify positive COVID-19 cases, disease incidence, suspected cases, high-risk individuals, etc. EHR data from lab tests can also help identify the number of people tested for COVID-19.
Dr. Rajiv J. Shah, the president of the Rockefeller Foundation, tweeted, “We need a flexible, bottom-up approach to combat #Covid19 during this next phase. That’s why I’m pleased to share @DukeU & @TheCOVIDCollab’s latest #COVIDGAP report, which calls for a country-led pandemic response” (Shah, 2022). To date, high-income countries and multilateral organizations have collaborated to create COVID-related global policies. However, Dr. Shah indicates that high-income countries and multilateral organizations must change this approach and liaise with low-income and war-torn countries to achieve 70% global vaccination coverage. According to Rajiv, a country-led initiative will reflect local realities and priorities, increasing global vaccination coverage. Therefore, instead of a small group of countries and organizations leading global policies, all countries should be on-boarded on the policy development and implementation.
Personal Tweet:
A global collaborative partnership between all nations helped increase the global vaccination coverage to 90%, ending COVID-19 #EndingGlobalPandemics.
