Tutoring Services

Our organization provides one-on-one tutoring to university and college students with various academic needs. The program is specifically valuable to college students because they can learn in the comfort of their homes at any time. Our online classrooms are equipped with a wide range of interfaces and learning tools, including voice, video, and text options, to accommodate diverse student needs. Given our staff’s specialized skills, we guarantee high-quality education and learning experiences for all our students.

Explain how the learning theory applies to the service.

Tutoring services are intended to supplement lectures, not replace or replicate them. Therefore, our students do not need to memorize information to get the correct answers. Instead, we actively engage them in the learning process to improve their approach to learning and problem-solving skills.

This program design is grounded on the constructivism-based theory, which posits that learning isn’t about passively absorbing information but constructing own knowledge through observation, interpretation, and adaptation (Al-Shammari et al., 2019). According to this theory, people create knowledge by reflecting on personal experiences, searching for the meaning of those experiences, and integrating their newly-acquired information with pre-existing information. To this end, our programs are task-based, learner-centered, and hands-on to encourage active student engagement. Students will be provided with tasks, and our tutors will prompt them to explain their understanding of the task. The tutors will examine the students’ competency, identify gaps in students’ expertise, and develop an individualized teaching program to improve the student’s performance.

Explain the benefits of the service using the learning theory.

Tutoring using constructivism learning theory will help students, especially those with learning difficulties easily understand and remember class concepts. Al-Shammari et al. (2019) indicate that constructivism-based approaches such as cognitive apprenticeships (coaching and modeling), social negotiations (e.g., group discussions and debates), and reflective awareness help promote students’ understanding.

A constructivism-based tutoring program is also effective for students with behavioral issues, e.g., those feeling demotivated, detached, or disengaged from school. Shammari et al. (2019) report that the program piques students’ interest because they are actively engaged in the learning process. The program is also individualized to each student’s needs and interests, explaining why it would appeal to demotivated students.

Memorization or cramming is unnecessary in constructivism-based programs. Shammari et al. (2019) indicate that constructivist strategies such as critiquing assumptions and using visual images to make sense of relationships between concepts negate the need for memorization.

Explain three ways that the service will support college-level learning.

Most teaching programs use a one-size-fits-all approach, which is ineffective because not all students have the same learning style or needs. On the other hand, our tutoring program is individualized, meaning programs are tailored to each student’s specific needs, enhancing learning outcomes.

Private tutoring can also support college-level learning by enhancing students’ self-efficacy.

From my experience, I can attest that most struggling students do not believe in their academic abilities. Constructivism-based instructional methods such as watching peers model a task or demonstrating a skill can help students develop internal imagery needed to conceptualize a targeted skill. Tutors can use such approaches to help learners master tasks previously perceived as difficult or impossible to improve academic performance.

Because the tutoring program is one-on-one, the tutors can identify whether the students’ poor performance is connected to a psychological problem. Consequently, as part of the individualized plan, the tutor will help the students deal with unwarranted physiological reactions, e.g., stress and anxiety effectively, enhancing learning outcomes.
