Supporting Diversity through 21st Century Teaching and Learning
21st-century education needs an advanced support system to involve students in appropriate abilities and understanding, suitable know-how, in addition to real-life networks to make education pertinent, custom-made, and appealing. Knowledge of crucial topics and 21st-century subjects is necessary for learner attainment. The P21 Framework for 21st Century Learning resulted from the contributions of educationalists, learning specialists, and corporate frontrunners to describe and demonstrate the abilities, awareness, know-how, and backing structures that learners require to thrive in their jobs, existence, and residency.
Thousands of educators and hundreds of schools in the U.S. and overseas use the Framework to position 21st-century expertise as the focal point of education. All the rudiments of the Framework are essential to guarantee 21st-century keenness for each learner. Fundamental modules comprise of dialectal and literateness, fine art; arithmetic, money matters; science; topography; history; regime; and civics.
The aim of the P21 ELF is not to reproduce government primary education principles, but offer grownups hands-on direction, that comprises precise samples of 21st-century abilities and understanding for primary students. P21 acknowledges five vital support systems to warrant every single learner receives the type of education skill that forms 21st century proficiency. They include 21st-century principles, evaluation of 21st-century abilities, 21st-century syllabus and lessons, 21st century qualified growth and education settings.
Additionally, institutions should uphold an indulgent of educational material at complex stages by intertwining 21st-century inter-corrective themes into main lessons such as international cognizance, fiscal, commercial, trade, and innovative mastery, public and health literateness, and ecological learning. 21st century subjects capitalize on media, information and technology skills to instill learning and life skills for an ultimate efficacious life and career. Consequently, creative thinking, creativity, collation and communication are the tenets of 21st century education. Differentiation is through the use of different techniques, activities, and assessment to teach children with special needs. Accommodation is the use of support process to help the children with special needs perform better. The modification is the change made to certain activities and assessments that help children with disabilities improve their capabilities. The Depth of Knowledge levels includes Recall, Skill or concept, strategic thinking and extended thinking (Grover, 2007).
The Instructional plan makes use of the three activities and assessments that are under accommodation, differentiation, and modification. The students will be all participate in various ways depending on their capabilities. For the students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), the teacher will provide oral instructions where the students should present their tests and reading materials in oral formats. For the students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), they should participate in activities that are concise and short. It helps monitor the attention span as well as prevent distractions as a result of long, drawn out projects (Grover, 2007). The new student who is not fluent in English will provide oral reading materials and tests that the student can use to practice to improve fluency.
