ANSWER
Income Inequality and Discrimination
Discrimination and income inequality are some of the most controversial and current issues in today’s society. Discrimination refers to the act of segregating people based on their race, gender, age, ethnic background, cultural background, and any other factor. Economic or income inequality refers to the unequal distribution of opportunity and income between various groups in society (Milanovic, 2016). These two issues are a major concern in almost every country in the world, as many groups of people in society are trapped in poverty and remain low on the social ladder. Discrimination and income inequality are interrelated issues. Discrimination of certain groups of people in society results in these groups having limited access to opportunity and income, which ultimately results in economic inequality (Reich, 2017). Several activist organizations are advocating for policies that shun discrimination and seek to alleviate income inequality, with several governments and organizations putting in efforts to reduce discrimination in the workplace and in the society.
Discussing income inequality and discrimination is important as the two issues affect modern society negatively. There are ethical implications and differing views and approaches on the issues, and how they should be resolved. There are also differing views on the actual causes of income inequality in society, which will be discussed for better understanding. Resolving discrimination and economic inequality is important for any country that aims at achieving economic growth and enjoying stability and security in the society. For these reasons, the two current issues will be discussed to identify the arguments around them and how they can be tackled by governments and organizations, for the greater good of society. The guidelines, beliefs, and teachings of philosophers Aristotle and Plato will be incorporated in the analysis of the two social issues.
