  • Clearly represent the activities and responsibilities in a RACI-type grid.
Hints

Focus on deliverables; don’t dive too deeply into the activity list. The expectation is not that you will look at every task in the Gantt or WBS, but that you’ll be looking at the major activities. It is recommended that you consider three levels—project, phase such as planning, and task.

I project I have decided to undertake is a Virtual Fundraising Gala to help raise funds to support

IDEO non-profit organization. IDEO is a non-profit design studio that design products and services alongside organizations that are committed to creating a more just and inclusive world and their mission is to design a more inclusive world.(IDEO.org) A virtual fundraising gala gives the opportunity for the company to fund its mission, pay overhead costs, develop campaigns, and make improvements that will benefit future clients who use their services.

Overview of context

IDEO is a global design company founded in Palo Alto, California in 1991. “It’s the creative brains behind the first manufacturable mouse in Apple.”(productplan.com) IDEO has over 30 years of history in producing  innovative solutions to problems and fueling creativity around the world. The 700+ IDEO team that populates nine offices around the world, IDEO has made it its business to create spaces where inspiration and creativity flows easily. This makes it ideal for a virtual gala because it can reach all over the world at one time to garner donations. The departments needed for this project would be the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Marketing, The staff, Volunteers, and Software Engineers.

Overview of Organization and Departments involved in project

Executive Director

As the leader the Executive Director carries the vision of the organization and inspires stakeholders to raise money with them.( transformconsultinggroup.com) Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for talking with major donors, corporations and foundations. The director is also helpful when setting up fundraising goals.

Board Members

Board Members are also responsible for taking full advantage of their network and relationships. Therefore, the Board members should also be involved in soliciting gifts from major donors and foundations.

Marketing Team and The Staff

Marketing and staff are needed to get the word out to potential donors and previous donors about the fundraiser. By utilizing peer-to-peer marketing strategies, social media, and other grassroots efforts to spread the word. Everyone on the staff are essential in fundraising for a non-profit.

Volunteers

Volunteer staff can be essential by reading and sending emails, monitoring social media posts and sharing fundraising efforts with their network. Software engineers will be needed for the creation of the virtual fundraising platform or website being utilized for the gala.

Brief Statement of background with organization and track

I do not have a specific connection or history with this organization, but I do like their mission and sustainability movement in the design world. I have never worked for a non-profit, but I have done some project s while working for the New York City Department of Transportation. I have an Associates Degree in Business Information and Technology and am currently working toward a combined degree in Business, Management, and Economics and an MBA in Business Management.

Brief Description of Project

The virtual fundraising Gala is a way to host what would normally be a fundraising gala, using a live streaming platform to engage IDEO’s supporters right from the comfort of their own homes. The virtual gala program will feature a similar layout to that of a live gala program with speakers or inspirational videos educating and engaging the audience, a fundraising portion that will include clear calls to action to support the organization. The virtual gala run between 60 – 90 minutes in an effort to keep audience’s attention. This project is still in the infancy stage within the organization.

  • Hyer – Director will specify goals and guidelines for gala
  • Berger – Head of Global Marketing will be apprised of goals and specifications and will create plan for individual marketing staff and volunteers.
  • Software design staff will help with setting up livestream platform for gala
