Club Management Case Study 2

Case Study 2

In order to prevent the committee chairpersons from overstepping their authority, Tom needs to hold a meeting with each of them and discuss methods of improving the efficiency of committee operations. During these meetings and discussions, he should set and clearly explain the boundaries between the club staff and the board’s men. Tom needs to play the role of a middle man between the two parties to improve the club and safeguard its future, especially since the club has not been performing well for a while. Tom has to inform the chairpersons that his role is to turn the club around or improve it so that they believe that he has the club’s best interests at heart and avoid overstepping.

Some of the obstacles or challenges that Tom may face include the committee members and the board showing resistance to his way of managing issues and the chairpersons overstepping their authority. The committee members and the board may feel that they are experienced in the management of the club and that their way of handling issues is just fine. Therefore, they may object to the advice provided by Tom and the guidelines that he may give. He should, therefore, remind all the parties that his duty is to better the club and that the club needs improvement, to minimize the chances of resistance.

In order to establish written guidelines for the committee members, Tom should ensure that the members are involved in the idea generation. During the committee meeting, Tom should go through the organizational chart and the blanket statement, after which he should talk about the written guidelines to ensure that all members agree with him. This will ensure that all the members are on the same page, and the guidelines will be adhered to.
