Wicked Problem: Incarcerated Youth are not able to transition out of jail and go to college.

System to be Designed: A five-day program/curriculum that can be implemented in juvenile detention centers to prepare teens to attend college. The program should include importance of education, economics, politics, health care, and mental health care.  Program should also provide incentives like scholarships, housing vouchers, and college application fees paid for each program graduate.

Large Scale System Designed to Address your Grand Challenge (35%)

Assignment 3 will focus on the design/development of a system that will lead to the elimination of your Grand Challenge/wicked problem. Using Galbraith’s STAR model, you will provide an outline, detailed description of a strategy plan, implementation plan, and GANNT chart for developing the program, policy, legislation, organization, system or innovation that, you believe will lead to the eradication of your Grand Challenge from society.  The paper must be a minimum of 14 pages ( not including cover page, references, charts, diagrams) and contain a minimum of 20 current sources peer-reviewed articles.

You are encouraged to integrate all previous and current written work and make it into an original paper. Use APA format to quote yourself but do not cut and paste.

  1. This assignment is the real goal and product for this class and the intention is that you submit a paper that begins with a short summary of the current state of your thinking for your project including: the problem definition, your ideas about causation, and your proposed innovation/intervention to overcome your chosen Grand Challenge.
  2. Begin by reviewing Chapter two in Designing Organizations (this chapter has much of what you need to inform this assignment) Galbraith, J.R. (2014). Designing Organizations: Strategy, Structure & Process (3rd Ed). Jossey-Bass. C.2. The Star Model p.15-56

III. Organization of your paper

  2. Short summary – Include Professional Mission & Vision statements
  3. Grand Challenge selection narrative: describe your innovation & proposed prototype, program, organization, or system.
  4. Literature Review (15 new sources, at least half from peer-reviewed journals)

      Structure (501 C3; for profit; for benefit; organizational chart)
      Processes (Information Flow & Decision Processes-informal processes,business processes, leadership & management processes)

      People  (skill sets, mindset, assignment, teams)
  5. Implementation plan
