21st Century skills and Standards

The 21st-century learning support system aims to help students realize their academic potential by using several learning principles and standards that have been established collectively by crucial education stakeholders at a global scale. Among these set standards, including the International Society for Technology in Education Student (ISTE-S) and Common Core State Standards (CCSS).. Thus, this paper aims to use these 21st Century learning support system as a resource in redesigning the Performance Task Analysis-Summative Assessment Rubrics for grade six students.

Creativity and Innovation

The student applied the already existing knowledge acquired in classes and used the experience to generate new concepts, ideas, techniques, processes, and products are in line with the learning objectives.

Resign grade Six Rubrics – the performance assessment and task expectations guidance will require students to apply the existing knowledge to develop and present concepts in new ways. The rubrics will thus incorporate the visual presentation of historical facts and scientific processes and procedures by using imagery and visual art to demonstrate competency in learning objectives, at are informed by learning sciences (ISTE, 2007). This approach is aimed at helping students show as well as improve their creativity abilities in understanding as well as presenting the learned information and acquired knowledge the others. The rubrics aim to be “Clear, understandable, and consistent” in line with the CCSS standards (Cores Standards, 2010). The rubric endeavors to ensure that facilitates the curriculum and instructions development.

Under this ISTE –S standard, students are expected to leverage technology by taking an active role in selecting, accomplishing and demonstrate competency in learning objectives, at are informed by learning sciences (ISTE, 2007). Therefore, using this standard, under the performance task analysis and Rubrics, the students will be assigned students tasks and assignment that will use technology such the use of the internet, digital library as well as deliver the assignments through digital means as a way to seek feedback that will inform and improve their practices. Also, ensuring the use of technological techniques in grading will also encourage the students to demonstrate a variety of ways in which they learn.  Students will be able to offer creative and innovative ways to solve professional challenges through critical thinking.

Redesigning the assessment and performance rubrics was relatively changeling especially since it requires all the standards to be considered. The rubric on grade six is keen to show the design that is aimed at meeting and achieving student mastery of the content in line with the instructional objectives, which include cognitive assessment, social, linguistic, physical and psychological development. The rubrics emphasize the focus on the developmental criteria outlined. The rubric is a perfect construct and schema that gave me an insight on how to develop and establish learner-centered standards to ensure that student master all the expected instructional objectives. Therefore, I will be able to satisfy and meet all the CLO for the students.

In conclusion, the redesigning process was challenging but productive. Significant changes have been done on how the rubrics will be created when assigning tasks to students. Based on the rubrics, the tasks should be aimed at improving student performance by encouraging creativity and innovation. These aspects will be achieved by encouraging visual presentation and apply the learned skills to develop new ideas of communicating the same information.
